Janssen Glass & Door Helps Design New Overland Park Development

Commercial Glass Project Janssen GlassJanssen Glass & Door is proud to be a part of the PririeFire development at 135th and Nall in Overland Park. It’s a lively and varied development that houses lots of activities and attractions for all ages. Janssen Glass & Door had the amazing opportunity to help develop commercial glass structures for several different attractions which are now open and ready for the public.

Museum at Prairiefire

One of the big draws to the Prairiefire development for families is the Museum. It’s home to renowned exhibitions and authentic artifacts from the American Museum of Natural History, one of the most celebrated museums in the world. Janssen Glass & Door created the showcases for fossils and other artifacts that are shown here. We used anti-reflective, low iron glass. This gives the glass a green tint. We also had to air-seal the showcases to keep the humidity levels stable. The artifacts inside need to be kept away from damaging factors, such as humidity, harsh light, and human touch. We took these precautions because the display had to meet the requirements set by artifact museums to host the best high attraction artifacts and exhibits.

Cinetopia & Pinstripes

Janssen Glass & Door also had the opportunity to work closely with two other attractions in the Prairiefire development. We installed nearly all of the glass inside the upscale modern movie theater, Cinetopia. We even made the glowball lighting pieces over each entrance in the theater. We also installed much of the glass inside Pinstripes, an upscale gaming and bistro event space. There, you can play games like bocce ball and bowling while eating a bistro-inspired menu.

Janssen Glass & Door Talents Shine Through

Dealership Janssen Glass ProjectRecently the Janssen Glass & Door team took on a large project for the Olathe Lincoln Dealership. The dealership wanted a showroom with lots of glass, interior and exterior, which showed off and complemented the beautiful cars that are inside. The assorted project required several different glazing systems and a lot of planning to accommodate the dealership’s needs. Janssen Glass & Door took a conceptual idea and turned it into reality for the Olathe Lincoln Dealership. You can see the concept design on the left of the picture and the final product on the right. It was a challenging but rewarding project that turned out beautifully after a few months of hard work.

Commercial Glazing Systems That Wow

This was a diverse commercial project that required a lot of different systems throughout the dealership. We used a Kawneer, multi-story glazing system for the glass curtain walls in the storefront. The 600 LR low rise system is more than 12 feet in height and adds a lot of natural lighting to the inside of the dealership, as well as allows customers to see inside while shopping on the lot. The structure is built to withstand a strong wind load to protect the valuable cars inside from shattered glass.

Glass That Multi-Tasks

The glass we used for all the exterior windows throughout the dealership is a PPG Solarban 70. This type of insulated glass has thermal properties that lessen heating and cooling bills. The glass also utilizes color neutrality so that the inside of the dealership has beautiful natural lighting that doesn’t appear tinted and allows customers to see cars in their true shades.

Operational Glass Doors

The showroom leaf doors on the side of the building are built so that one leaf is larger than the other. We worked this system into the design to allow cars to get in and out of the dealership without adding too much bulk or inefficiency. It also keeps the design fluid throughout the showroom.

On the front of the building we used two types of doors. On the exterior we used insulated glass doors, which have two panes of glass with dead air inside. This type of glass door is good for extreme climates, like the ones in the Midwest. Then, once you pass through a vestibule you get to the interior heavy glass doors, which continue with the light and open theme throughout the store. Having two sets of glass doors with a vestibule in between allows customers to come and go without bringing the weather inside and affecting the inside climate.

If you’re interested in a commercial glass project with varying glazing systems call Janssen Glass & Door for an estimate.

The Difference Between Laminated Glass & Tempered Glass

Types of Safety GlassJanssen Glass & Door offers a wide variety of options when it comes to glass products for your home or business. We even offer two types of safety glass. While both laminated and tempered glass are considered safety glass, the way they are constructed, and they way they work differ. Laminated glass is made with a piece of plastic laminate material between two glass panes and is effective at preventing break-ins and theft. Tempered glass undergoes a special process that hardens the glass substantially, and poses less of a threat when it is shattered. See how the two safety glasses differ, what they can do for you, and where you can use them in your home or business in the infographic below.

3 Things You Didn’t Know Janssen Glass & Door Could Do With Glass

Janssen Glass & Door in Kansas City is known for our commercial glass storefronts, our residential shower doors, and custom mirrors. But there are a lot of other projects that we can do with glass that most people aren’t aware of. Take for example the three projects below:

Use Glass Instead of Spindles on a Staircase or Deck

If you want a more modern and simple look to your home, try this out-of-the-box design idea. Instead of spindles, we can install custom glass sheets to line your staircase, from stair to railing. This design allows for more light to pass through, brightening the entire area. This looks gorgeous in an entryway where there are a lot of windows.

We can also install custom glass sheets used in place of spindles on a patio or deck. This design doesn’t hinder your view, allowing you to take in so much more scenery, whether that is a beautifully wooded backyard, or a city skyline.

We Can Install Safety Glass

If you like the look of glass staircases and decks, but worry about the safety of it, we’ve got you covered. We can install safety glass in these fixtures, or even in window and door fixtures. Our safety glass is stronger, thicker, more durable, and also less likely to scratch or smudge. We use safety glass in many of our commercial glass storefronts and windows.

Let in the Light with Glass Awnings

If you are a business owner or a homeowner looking to add an awning above an entranceway, but don’t want to block out the light, glass awnings are a great alternative. We can install flat, curved, single piece, multi-piece, anything you want. And glass awnings will harmonize with almost any style.

Customize glass edges

Customized Glass Accents

To create a custom look, besides offering over 20 pattern glass designs, we also offer a variety of edges. Here are some examples of edges you can choose to add that custom touch to your glass accents. The Flat Polish and Pencil Polish are more modern and simple, while the O.G. Polish and Bevel are more traditional and ornate. Whatever the style you’re looking for, Janssen Glass can create it.

Patterned Glass

But besides edges, we also offer a huge variety of glass patterns. Take a look at some of these beautiful and elegant patterns and you’ll never think of glass the same way again! The Delta Frost Glass on the left is popular in bathrooms as shower doors or as decorative walls to separate rooms. The Seedy Glass on the right is popular in leaded glass windows.

Janssen Glass Company – We’re Not Going Anywhere

Janssen Glass Company logoAt Janssen Glass, we’ve been growing since our inception in 1984. We started out as an answering machine in the dining room and our dad cut glass at night and on the weekends in our garage. Today, we are one of Kansas City’s premier glass companies offering a turnkey operation and servicing both commercial and residential customers. You’ll see our name on buildings, doors and windows all across this fair city and we have no plans for slowing down now.

A Small Move for Janssen Glass – a Giant Leap for Productivity

One of the results of our growing pains was outgrowing the original building we were headquartered in. With the increase in commercial construction projects plus a growing residential division, we realized we needed more space. As luck would have it, about the time we started thinking about moving, we noticed the building across the street was for sale. So we bought it in the fall of 2012. It increased our working space from 8,100 sq. ft. to 15,200 sq. ft. nearly doubling our size. It was perfect timing.

99% Customer Satisfaction Rating

Shortly after purchasing and moving into the new building, we hired two new commercial estimators with decades of experience between them. Since then, things have been pretty busy around Janssen Glass. We intend to continue to provide the same stellar service with the same 99% satisfaction rating that we’ve been providing since 1984. We may have grown. We may have moved, but in the end, we’re not going anywhere. Kansas Citians looking for commercial or residential glass service can still turn to Janssen for the best service in the business. Thank you for your loyal patronage these past 30 years. We appreciate all of our customers!

Janssen Glass Celebrates 30 Years in Kansas City!

30 year anniversary

Back in 1984, Tom Janssen decided to start his own glass company out of his garage. He had been a glazier for years and decided it was time to strike out on his own. “For years, Janssen Glass was an answering machine in our dining room,” Tim Janssen, his son, shared. “My dad cut glass at night and on the weekends while working his full-time job.”

Fast forward 30 years and Janssen Glass is one of Kansas City’s premier commercial and residential glass companies. Look around and you’re sure to see our name on windows and doors all over town. Son, Matt Janssen, started working for his father’s company in 1993. Tim joined in 1997 and older brother, Pat, started in 1999. Together with their father, they have grown the company into what is today.

“I think one of the things that sets Janssen Glass apart,” said Matt, “is that we are extremely responsive.” At Janssen Glass, we pride ourselves on being more customer service oriented than most glass companies. We are a real glass shop that actually cuts glass in house. Because we cut glass on the premises, we can keep more in stock and ready for our customers. Plus, we offer 24-hour emergency glass service because we know broken glass can occur at any hour of the day or night.

We really want to be there for our customers when they need us. That’s why we focus on being proactive and having the materials and the service ready so it’s there when our customers need it. On the commercial side, we work with architects and engineers on design/build projects so we really understand the structural mechanics involved. This allows us to catch any problems before they become costly mistakes. Our commercial glass customers trust us to provide the glass and the experience to make their projects a success.

Commercial or residential, Janssen Glass strives to provide exceptional quality glass repair, replacement, and installation. Here’s to another fantastic 30 years!
